The Stars Have Aligned And Foreigners Are Flocking To Panama To Retire, Invest And Vacation

The stars have aligned and foreigners are flocking to Panama to retire, invest, and vacation. Panama is currently amidst a flurry of real economic growth and infrastructure development. This growth aids the economy as a whole and is seen as a strong indicator for 2011. While diversifying Panama’s portfolio outside the realm of “the Panama Canal” was a no-brainer, many of these sectors were largely fueled by foreigners. With these foreigners’ belts tightened in a global recession, how will Panama’s satellite industries fare? With the banks more restrictive on loans, buyers will need more than just a pulse to qualify in Panama in 2011. The result might be a drop in the luxury real estate market, yielding great opportunities for foreign investors. Panama has a total of more than 80 banks, more than 15 of them being national. The city also boasts several tourist attractions, and is a stopover for other nearby destinations in the country as well as a tourist destination in its own right. Today tourism is the most important economic activity in terms of revenue generation. The hotel occupancy rate is the 2nd highest (84.7 percent) in the world after Perth, Australia and is followed by Dubai (84.5 percent).
